World Mental Health Day 2025 – October 10th

Connecting with Our Community

Every year on October 10th, the world comes together to recognise World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilising efforts to support better mental health for all.

This year, Mental Health Australia’s theme is “Connect with your community.” At Thrive House, we know that connection is at the heart of wellbeing. When we feel connected to others, to places, and to meaningful activities, our mental health is strengthened.

Why Connection Matters

Mental health is not just about the absence of illness, it’s about feeling supported, valued, and part of something bigger. Communities give us:

  • Belonging – knowing we are accepted and understood.
  • Support – people to lean on in tough times.
  • Purpose – shared activities and goals that bring joy and meaning.

A community can take many forms. It might be:

  • Friends, family, or loved ones
  • A multicultural or neighbourhood centre
  • A community choir or garden
  • A book club, running group, or volunteer team
  • An LGBTQIA+ support group
  • A workplace, school, or online group

Wherever we feel safe, seen, and heard, that is community.

Supporting Our Team with EAP

At Thrive House, we also know that our staff are the heart of everything we do. To support the wellbeing of our team, we provide access to a confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

This service offers free, professional, and confidential counselling to help our staff manage personal or work-related challenges. Having support available when it’s needed most ensures our team members can look after their own mental health, and continue providing the best support to our participants and families.

How You Can Get Involved on World Mental Health Day

On October 10th, we encourage everyone to:

Start a conversation about mental health with a friend, colleague, or family member.
Reach out if you or someone you know needs support.
Join a local group or activity that makes you feel connected.
Reduce stigma by listening, learning, and sharing resources.

Together, we can create communities where mental health is prioritised and where everyone feels they belong.

At Thrive House, we’re proud to walk alongside our participants, families, and community members to create spaces where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
